The Analytik Jena multi N/C series measures total organic contamination in water — injecting a micro-volume sample into a high-temperature combustion tube packed with a platinum catalyst, oxidising all organic matter to CO₂, and quantifying the result via a high-sensitivity NDIR detector. Results report in milligrams of organic carbon per litre, documented and audit-ready, with method support for USP <643>, EP 2.2.44, and JP XVI compliance. 01 — Method

Catalytic high-temperature combustion

Oxidises all organic compounds — including humic acids, polymers, and particulate-bound organics that UV-persulphate methods routinely under-recover.

The multi N/C reports each parameter individually — helping you pinpoint whether contamination is organic or inorganic, dissolved or particulate. TNb measurement (total bound nitrogen) runs simultaneously with TOC when equipped with the chemiluminescence detector, eliminating the need for a separate Kjeldahl analysis.

A combustion lab in a single chassis

Inside the multi N/C: sample is acidified and sparged to remove inorganic carbon, then injected into a high-temperature combustion tube where a platinum catalyst drives complete oxidation. The CO₂ stream is dried, scrubbed of halides, and quantified by a high-sensitivity NDIR detector. An optional chemiluminescence channel measures total bound nitrogen in parallel — six parameters from a single injection.

What does a TOC Analyzer actually do?

It measures how much organic material is dissolved or suspended in your water sample. The Analytik Jena multi N/C injects the sample into a high-temperature combustion tube — this converts all organic material into CO₂ gas, which is precisely measured by an NDIR detector. The result tells you the concentration of organic carbon in milligrams per litre, without the wet chemistry and multi-day incubation that traditional methods require.

Which businesses in Nepal need a TOC Analyzer?

How is a TOC test different from BOD or COD?

TOC gives results rapidly via direct combustion oxidation. BOD takes five days (measures oxygen consumed by microbes). COD uses chemical oxidation with dichromate. TOC is faster, more reproducible, generates less hazardous waste, and is the method required by pharmacopoeias for pharmaceutical water testing. For routine daily quality control, TOC is the standard.

What oxidation methods do TOC analyzers use?

Two main approaches: (1) Catalytic high-temperature combustion (HTC) — the method used by the Analytik Jena multi N/C. Oxidises all organics including difficult compounds. (2) UV-persulphate — lower-temperature wet oxidation. Simpler but can under-recover certain high-molecular-weight or particulate-bound organics. HTC is preferred for labs needing a single robust platform across sample types.

Yes. The multi N/C series meets USP <643>, EP 2.2.44, and JP XVI requirements for TOC testing of pharmaceutical water.
